Artist Sol Calero (Caracas, Venezuela, 1982) develops immersive spaces that combine elements of vernacular architecture with a visual style inspired by Latin American references, exploring the idea of expanded painting in murals, mosaics, and furniture. After presenting Pabellón Criollo (Criollo Pavilion) at the 60th Venice Biennale (2024), an installation named after a typical Venezuelan dish that symbolizes the mixture of cultures (Indigenous, African, and European), Calero will design a pavilion for MASP’s Free span in 2026. Her projects transform spaces into participatory and welcoming environments, loaded with affective memories that suggest notions of identity, displacement, and belonging.
