[This is the first book dedicated to the work of Joseca Yanomami (Yanomami Indigenous Land, Brazilian Amazon, 1971), and accompanies his first solo exhibition, held at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (MASP). The publication reproduces 93 drawings by the artist, all belonging to the museum’s collection, representing characters, scenes, and landscapes from the yanomami universe, both from everyday life and connected to shamanic songs and myths. Most of the drawings are accompanied by explanatory titles-descriptions written by the artist, constituting a truly extraordinary set, providing an eloquent testimony to the daily struggle the Yanomami face in defending their forest. The book is organized by the exhibition’s curators, Adriano Pedrosa, Artistic Director, and David Ribeiro, Curatorial Assistant, MASP, and includes texts by Bruce Albert, David Ribeiro, Denilson Baniwa, and Patrícia Ferreira Pará Yxapy.]
