By Luciano Migliaccio
Juliette, the youngest of the artist’s three sisters, was to become the faithful conservator of his studio. The work Portrait of Juliette Coubert belongs to the artist’s fully mature period. Here the painter seems to have found the same sobriety of pictorial media that characterizes his portrait (also in the Masp) of their other sister, Zélie.
