A painting conserved at the Musée du Petit Palais, of Paris (Laffon 1982, cat. n. 575), shows the same place from a different angle, thus facilitating the identification of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, a town in the Lot district, near Cahors. Another vista of Saint-Cirq Lapopie was presented at Sotheby’s, in London, with the title Landscape of Lot, signed and dated 1913, which provides a reliable reference for dating the versions discussed here, i.e. the paintings at Masp – Landscape with Castle, View from Saint-Cirq Lapopie – and the Petit Palais, given their style and iconography.
