After the German occupation of Paris, Beatrix Reynald settled in Rio de Janeiro and sold her collection with the generous intention of contributing to the French Resistance. The canvas Rabat, the Cape of Oudaïas, painted in 1935 features a vista of the port at Rabat rather than a place in Algeria, as suggested in previous catalogues, based on the fact that between 1940 and 1945 the painter paid several visits to Algeria.
